Dua for your spouse, and for love in marriage

The Quran's dua for a spouse asks Allah for a husband or wife who is qurrata a'yun, a joy to the eyes. Allah also says He placed love and mercy between spouses (30:21), so ask Him for both. Below are the sourced duas for your spouse, and a plain word about the many "love duas" online that have no source.

Dua 1: For your spouse and family

Rabbanā hab lanā min azwājinā wa dhurriyyātinā qurrata aʿyuniw-wajʿalnā lil-muttaqīna imāmā

Guide

When and how to say it

The Quran's dua for a spouse asks Allah for a husband or wife who is qurrata a'yun, a joy to the eyes. Allah also says He placed love and mercy between spouses (30:21), so ask Him for both. Below are the sourced duas for your spouse, and a plain word about the many "love duas" online that have no source.

How to make dua for your husband or wife

Use Dua 1 often, in sujood and after salah, and add your own words in any language: for their health, their iman, their work and for peace between you. A dua for someone in their absence has a special promise. The Prophet ﷺ said an angel stands by the one who prays for his brother in his absence and says: "Ameen, and for you the same."1 That includes your spouse.

For love between spouses

Allah says: "And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy" (30:21).2 Affection and mercy are gifts from Allah, so ask Him for them by name. Then act on them. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best of you is the best to his family, and I am the best of you to my family."3

Duas that have no source

Many sites promise a "dua to make my husband love me" or to make a particular person marry you, often with a set number of repetitions or a wazifa. These have no source in the Quran or the hadith. Some are love charms, which the Prophet ﷺ warned against: he said that spells, amulets and love charms (tiwalah) are shirk.4 Ask Allah directly, in your own words, and use the duas above.

If you are hoping to marry, see the dua for marriage and the istikhara dua. To congratulate a couple, see the dua for newlyweds.
