Short answer
Yes. A child conceived through IVF with the husband's sperm and the wife's egg during a valid marriage is fully the couple's legitimate child: lineage, inheritance, mahram rules and every other right are the same as for any child. Even where a forbidden method was used, the child carries no sin. Lineage in donor cases needs a mufti.
A child born from permitted IVF belongs to the husband and wife in every ruling of nasab (lineage), inheritance and mahram relations. The child is never blamed for how they were conceived; where donor material was used, the sin is on those who chose it, and how lineage is attributed is decided by a mufti on the facts.
The four schools agree on this.
Explanation
Many couples worry that a baby conceived in a lab is somehow less halal. It is not. Allah creates every child, and IVF only helps the husband's sperm and the wife's egg to meet. When the conditions in is IVF haram are kept, the child is exactly as legitimate as one conceived naturally. Give the adhan, do the aqiqah and raise the child like any other.
The Prophet ﷺ said that the child belongs to the marriage bed (al-walad lil-firash): a child born within a valid marriage is attributed to the husband. Lineage matters greatly in Islam. He warned against claiming a father who is not your own, which is why scholars insist that only the couple's own sperm and egg are used.
If donor sperm, a donor egg or a surrogate was used, that was forbidden (see donor sperm and eggs), but the child is innocent: no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another (6:164). Whom the child is attributed to, who counts as the mother, and who inherits are then real questions on which scholars differ, so a family in that situation should sit with a mufti rather than guess.
Embryos must also be transferred only while the marriage lasts. A transfer after divorce or after the husband's death raises serious lineage problems, and scholars forbid it.
Ask a mufti about your own case. This answer explains the general ruling. When the details of your situation matter, as they do here, ask a qualified mufti and give them the full facts. Where to ask a scholar.
The evidence
Quran, Surah Al-An'aam 6:164
Say, "Is it other than Allah I should desire as a lord while He is the Lord of all things? And every soul earns not [blame] except against itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ."
A child carries no blame for the way they were conceived.
Quran, Surah Al-Furqaan 25:54
And it is He who has created from water a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation].
Lineage is a bond Allah created and protects.
Sahih al-Bukhari 2053
Sahih... الولد للفراش وللعاهر الحجر ...
"The child belongs to the marriage bed, and for the fornicator there is the stone."
A child born in a valid marriage is attributed to the husband.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6766
Sahih... من ادعى إلى غير أبيه وهو يعلم فالجنة عليه حرام ...
"Whoever claims a father other than his own, knowing it, Paradise is forbidden to him."
Lineage must be kept true, which is why third-party gametes are forbidden.
Where the ruling is recorded
- al-Hidaya, Kitab al-Talaq, Bab Thubut al-Nasab. The rules by which a child's lineage is established through marriage.
- Resolutions of the Islamic Fiqh Academy (OIC), Resolution on test-tube babies. Permits IVF with the couple's own gametes during marriage and forbids third parties.
