Short answer
It depends on your content and the ads. Payment for halal content is lawful, but on YouTube the platform chooses the ads, which often include music, immodest images or haram products. Many Hanafi muftis therefore advise against ad monetization or call the income doubtful, while others allow it if your content is halal and you block haram ad categories.
Income for making permissible content is halal in principle. Because ad revenue is tied to ads the creator does not fully control, Deobandi fatwa centres differ: some rule ad monetization impermissible, others permit it when the content is halal and the creator uses the controls available to block haram ads. Sponsorships, memberships and selling your own halal products are cleaner income.

Explanation
Two questions decide whether creator income is halal:
1. Is the content halal? Pay for haram work is haram. In the Hanafi view that rules out content built on music, immodest display, backbiting, mockery, lies or promoting haram products. Hanafi scholars also differ on digital images of living beings; see Is taking pictures haram? Content that teaches, informs or entertains in a clean way is fine.
2. What are you paid for? With ad revenue, YouTube sells space on your videos and shares the money with you. The ads are chosen by the platform and can include music, women without modest dress, alcohol, gambling and interest-based finance. Some muftis say this makes the creator a cause of haram being shown and rule the income impermissible. Others say the sin of a haram ad is on the advertiser and the platform, so the income is allowed if the creator does what he can to block it.
The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever calls to guidance gets a reward like those who follow it, and whoever calls to misguidance carries a share of the sin of those who follow it. That cuts both ways for creators.
- Block sensitive and haram ad categories in your settings.
- Prefer direct sponsorships you choose, channel memberships, donations and your own products.
- Do not promote haram products in sponsored segments.
- The same reasoning applies to TikTok, Instagram and Facebook creator funds.

Quran, Surah Al-Maaida 5:2
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُحِلُّوا۟ شَعَٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا ٱلشَّهْرَ ٱلْحَرَامَ وَلَا ٱلْهَدْىَ وَلَا ٱلْقَلَٰٓئِدَ وَلَآ ءَآمِّينَ ٱلْبَيْتَ ٱلْحَرَامَ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًۭا مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَرِضْوَٰنًۭا ۚ وَإِذَا حَلَلْتُمْ فَٱصْطَادُوا۟ ۚ وَلَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوْمٍ أَن صَدُّوكُمْ عَنِ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ أَن تَعْتَدُوا۟ ۘ وَتَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ ﴿٢﴾
O you who have believed, do not violate the rites of Allah or [the sanctity of] the sacred month or [neglect the marking of] the sacrificial animals and garlanding [them] or [violate the safety of] those coming to the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and [His] approval. But when you come out of ihram, then [you may] hunt. And do not let the hatred of a people for having obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Haram lead you to transgress. And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
The question is whether showing haram ads counts as helping sin.

"Whoever calls to guidance has a reward like the rewards of those who follow him."
Content spreads reward or sin to everyone it reaches.
