Short answer
Islam gives no fixed meaning to dreaming of dinosaurs. The Prophet ﷺ said dreams are of three kinds: good news from Allah, frightening dreams from Shaytan, and dreams that come from your own thoughts. A dinosaur dream after a film or a stressful day is almost always the third kind. If it scared you, follow the sunnah for bad dreams.
Dream interpretation is not a source of rulings. No action is required for an ordinary dream, and online dream dictionaries should not be relied on. The sunnah steps for a bad dream apply if it frightened you.
The four schools agree on this.
Explanation
The Prophet ﷺ divided dreams into three: a good dream that is glad tidings from Allah, a dream that saddens you from Shaytan, and a dream from what a person tells himself, his own thoughts and worries. Dinosaurs were unknown to the classical dream interpreters, so their books do not mention them. Any 'Islamic meaning' you find online for a dinosaur is guesswork.
Ask yourself a few questions:
- Did you watch a film, play a game or see a documentary about dinosaurs recently? Then it is most likely a dream from your own mind.
- Was it frightening, such as being chased or attacked? Treat it as a bad dream: blow lightly to your left three times, seek refuge in Allah, turn over and tell no one. See after a bad dream.
- Did it leave you calm and happy? Thank Allah, and do not build decisions on it.
When the king of Egypt told his advisers about his dream, they called it 'a mixture of false dreams'. Many dreams really are a jumble of images with no message. A clear, good dream may carry glad tidings, and it should be taken only to a knowledgeable, pious interpreter, not a website.

The evidence
Quran, Surah Yusuf 12:44
They said, "[It is but] a mixture of false dreams, and we are not learned in the interpretation of dreams."
Many dreams are mixed images without meaning.
Sahih Muslim 2263
Sahih... والرؤيا ثلاثة فرؤيا الصالحة بشرى من الله ...
"Dreams are of three kinds: a good dream is glad tidings from Allah."
Not every dream carries a message; some come from your own thoughts.
Where the ruling is recorded
- Sharh Sahih Muslim (Nawawi), Kitab al-Ru'ya. Explains the three kinds of dreams.
