Short answer
Yes. The Prophet ﷺ drank zamzam standing, and Hanafi scholars count drinking it standing and facing the qiblah as recommended. Say Bismillah, drink in three breaths until full, and ask Allah for whatever you need. Sitting is also fine.
Drinking zamzam standing is mustahabb, one of two cases (with the water left over from wudu) where Hanafi texts recommend standing to drink. Also recommended: facing the qiblah, saying Bismillah, drinking deeply and making dua.
The four schools agree on this.
Explanation
Ibn Abbas said he gave the Prophet ﷺ zamzam to drink and he drank it standing. Since he generally discouraged drinking while standing, Hanafi jurists treat zamzam as a special case of honour. The other schools also cite this hadith; their texts differ on whether standing is better or only allowed. The Prophet also said of zamzam: "It is blessed; it is food that nourishes."
- Face the qiblah if you can.
- Say Bismillah.
- Drink in three breaths, taking the cup away from your mouth between them.
- Drink until you are full; scholars mention this as a sign of love for it.
- Make dua for anything good. Many scholars recommend asking for beneficial knowledge, wide provision and healing.
- Say Alhamdulillah after.
A well-known hadith says "zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for". Hadith scholars differ on its grading: some accept it and others call its chain weak. Its meaning is supported by the hadith above, and scholars throughout history have drunk it with hope and dua.
- Reading Quran over it: blowing on zamzam after reciting for healing is allowed.
- Pouring it on your head: fine, and some companions did so.
- Wudu or ghusl with it: allowed, but using it to clean after the toilet is disliked.
- Taking it home, selling it, giving it to non-Muslims: see zamzam rules.
