It is He who sent down tranquillity into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their [present] faith. And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth, and ever is Allah Knowing and Wise.

Allah sent down sakinah, tranquillity, into the believers' hearts at Hudaybiyah, when the terms of the treaty were hard for them to accept.

9 And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. 10 The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.

If two groups of believers fight, make peace between them with justice. The believers are brothers, so reconcile your brothers.

And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,

The servants of the Most Merciful walk gently, and when the ignorant address them harshly, they answer with peace.

Allazeena aamanoo wa lam yalbisooo eemaanahum bizulmin ulaaa'ika lahumul amnu wa hum muhtadoon

They who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice - those will have security, and they are [rightly] guided.

Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing have security. The Prophet ﷺ explained the wrongdoing here as shirk (Sahih al-Bukhari, from Ibn Masud).

About these verses, and how to use them

As-Salam, Peace, is one of the names of Allah (59:23). Paradise is called Dar as-Salam, the Home of Peace (10:25), its people are greeted with peace, and the Muslim greeting is peace. The Quran speaks of peace on three levels: the peace of a heart that remembers Allah, peace between people, and the final peace of Paradise. These verses cover all three, each with a line on its context.

Peace in daily life

The Prophet ﷺ made peace part of every day: the greeting as-salamu alaykum when you meet, the words "Allahumma antas-salam wa minkas-salam" after each fard prayer (Sahih Muslim 591), and the reminder that making peace between people is better than voluntary fasting, prayer and charity (Sunan Abi Dawud, graded sahih). For inner peace, the Quran's answer is dhikr (13:28), and the morning and evening adhkar are the simplest place to begin. For short quotes to share, see Islamic quotes about peace.
