Guide
Today's Hijri date in Indonesia is shown at the top of this page. It is worked out in your browser for the current calendar day in Indonesia, using Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar, the most widely used reference. In Indonesia, the date used for worship comes from: Ministry of Religious Affairs (sidang isbat). The method: sighting and calculation (MABIMS); Muhammadiyah calculates. That can put the local date a day away from Umm al-Qura, so the page has a one-tap adjustment.
Indonesia's official dates are set by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kementerian Agama) at the sidang isbat, a meeting on the 29th that weighs sighting reports against calculation under the MABIMS criteria (since 2022, a crescent at least 3 degrees high with an elongation of at least 6.4 degrees). The large organisation Muhammadiyah sets its own dates by calculation, and since 1446 AH it has used a single global Hijri calendar (KHGT).
Indonesia can therefore have two dates in one country. For Ramadan 1447, the government began on Thursday 19 February 2026 while Muhammadiyah and Saudi Arabia began on Wednesday 18 February. If you follow the government, choose −1 day whenever the sidang isbat began the month a day after Saudi Arabia.
The Islamic day begins at sunset, not at midnight: the night comes before its day. So after Maghrib in Indonesia, the Hijri date has already moved on by one, even though phones and calendars change it at midnight. This is why the first taraweeh of Ramadan is prayed on the evening before the first fast, and why "the night of the 27th" is the evening before the 27th day.
Expected dates by the Umm al-Qura calendar, with the date if the month begins a day later in Indonesia.

In the main transmitted position of the school, differences in the horizon (ikhtilaf al-matali) are not taken into account: a sighting established in one land binds others once it reaches them through a reliable route. Many later Hanafi scholars allowed distant lands to follow their own sighting. In practice, follow the body your local masjid follows, so the community fasts and celebrates together.1

Questions
The date at the top of this page is today's Hijri date for the current day in Indonesia, by the Umm al-Qura calendar. If the month began a day later in Indonesia, choose −1 day. After sunset the Islamic date has already moved on to the next day.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs sets the official dates at the sidang isbat, using sighting and calculation under the MABIMS criteria. Muhammadiyah follows its own calculated global calendar.
Not always. For Ramadan 1447, the government began a day after Saudi Arabia, while Muhammadiyah began on the same day as Saudi Arabia.
By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with the first taraweeh on the night of Sunday 7 February. Where the month starts by a later sighting it may begin on Tuesday 9 February. In Indonesia, follow the sidang isbat, or Muhammadiyah's calendar if that is what your community follows.
Use the converter on this page. Pick a Gregorian date to see the Hijri date, or enter a Hijri day, month and year to see the Gregorian date. It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, and the −1 and +1 day setting moves the results with your local sighting.
