Guide
Today's Hijri date in Turkey is shown at the top of this page. It is worked out in your browser for the current calendar day in Turkey, using Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar, the most widely used reference. In Turkey, the date used for worship comes from: Diyanet (Presidency of Religious Affairs). The method: calculated in advance. That can put the local date a day away from Umm al-Qura, so the page has a one-tap adjustment.
Turkey's Hijri dates come from Diyanet, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, which calculates the months in advance rather than waiting for a sighting. It follows the resolutions of the International Hijri Calendar Union Congress held in Istanbul in 2016, which treats the whole world as one horizon: a month begins when the crescent can be seen somewhere on earth under set criteria of the moon's elongation from the sun and its height.
Diyanet's calendar and Umm al-Qura are both calculated, but with different rules, so they sometimes fall a day apart. For Ramadan 1447, Diyanet set Thursday 19 February 2026, while Saudi Arabia began on Wednesday 18 February. Your browser cannot calculate Diyanet's calendar directly, so check Diyanet's published calendar and use the adjustment if it is a day behind.
The Islamic day begins at sunset, not at midnight: the night comes before its day. So after Maghrib in Turkey, the Hijri date has already moved on by one, even though phones and calendars change it at midnight. This is why the first taraweeh of Ramadan is prayed on the evening before the first fast, and why "the night of the 27th" is the evening before the 27th day.
Expected dates by the Umm al-Qura calendar, with the date if the month begins a day later in Turkey.

In the main transmitted position of the school, differences in the horizon (ikhtilaf al-matali) are not taken into account: a sighting established in one land binds others once it reaches them through a reliable route. Many later Hanafi scholars allowed distant lands to follow their own sighting. In practice, follow the body your local masjid follows, so the community fasts and celebrates together.1

Questions
The date at the top of this page is today's Hijri date for the current day in Turkey, by the Umm al-Qura calendar. If the month began a day later in Turkey, choose −1 day. After sunset the Islamic date has already moved on to the next day.
Turkey uses a calculated calendar published by Diyanet, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, following the 2016 International Hijri Calendar Union Congress in Istanbul. No sighting is needed.
Not always. Diyanet and the Umm al-Qura calendar are both calculated, with different rules. For Ramadan 1447, Turkey began on 19 February 2026 and Saudi Arabia on 18 February.
By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with the first taraweeh on the night of Sunday 7 February. Where the month starts by a later sighting it may begin on Tuesday 9 February. In Turkey, follow Diyanet's calendar.
Use the converter on this page. Pick a Gregorian date to see the Hijri date, or enter a Hijri day, month and year to see the Gregorian date. It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, and the −1 and +1 day setting moves the results with your local sighting.
