Guide
Today's Hijri date in Malaysia is shown at the top of this page. It is worked out in your browser for the current calendar day in Malaysia, using Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar, the most widely used reference. In Malaysia, the date used for worship comes from: Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, with JAKIM. The method: sighting and calculation together (MABIMS). That can put the local date a day away from Umm al-Qura, so the page has a one-tap adjustment.
Malaysia combines sighting (rukyah) and calculation (hisab), as the Conference of Rulers has agreed. The crescent is sought at about 29 sites on the 29th, and a sighting is accepted only when the moon meets the MABIMS criteria shared with Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore: since 2022, at least 3 degrees above the horizon with an elongation of at least 6.4 degrees. The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal announces Ramadan and the Eids on radio and television, and JAKIM publishes the year's calendar (takwim).
Malaysia is east of Arabia and uses stricter visibility criteria than the Umm al-Qura rule, so its months often begin a day after Saudi Arabia's, though many months match. Use the adjustment if JAKIM's calendar shows today a day behind.
The Islamic day begins at sunset, not at midnight: the night comes before its day. So after Maghrib in Malaysia, the Hijri date has already moved on by one, even though phones and calendars change it at midnight. This is why the first taraweeh of Ramadan is prayed on the evening before the first fast, and why "the night of the 27th" is the evening before the 27th day.

In the main transmitted position of the school, differences in the horizon (ikhtilaf al-matali) are not taken into account: a sighting established in one land binds others once it reaches them through a reliable route. Many later Hanafi scholars allowed distant lands to follow their own sighting. In practice, follow the body your local masjid follows, so the community fasts and celebrates together.1

Questions
The date at the top of this page is today's Hijri date for the current day in Malaysia, by the Umm al-Qura calendar. If the month began a day later in Malaysia, choose −1 day. After sunset the Islamic date has already moved on to the next day.
Malaysia uses sighting and calculation together under the MABIMS criteria. The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal announces Ramadan and the Eids, and JAKIM publishes the takwim.
Not always. Malaysia's months often begin a day after Saudi Arabia's, because the crescent must meet the MABIMS criteria over Malaysia.
By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with the first taraweeh on the night of Sunday 7 February. Where the month starts by a later sighting it may begin on Tuesday 9 February. In Malaysia, follow the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal's announcement.
Use the converter on this page. Pick a Gregorian date to see the Hijri date, or enter a Hijri day, month and year to see the Gregorian date. It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, and the −1 and +1 day setting moves the results with your local sighting.
