Guide
Today's Hijri date in Egypt is shown at the top of this page. It is worked out in your browser for the current calendar day in Egypt, using Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar, the most widely used reference. In Egypt, the date used for worship comes from: Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah. The method: sighting checked by calculation. That can put the local date a day away from Umm al-Qura, so the page has a one-tap adjustment.
In Egypt the start of Ramadan and the Eids is announced by Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah, the country's fatwa authority, through the Grand Mufti. On the 29th, sighting committees across the governorates include specialists from Dar al-Ifta, the Egyptian Survey Authority and the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG). NRIAG publishes the conjunction time and expected visibility in advance, and Dar al-Ifta makes the final call.
Egypt's dates usually match the Umm al-Qura calendar, and its Ramadan and Eid announcements often fall on the same day as Saudi Arabia's, but not always, because Egypt follows its own sighting rather than Saudi Arabia's. Follow Dar al-Ifta's announcement.
The Islamic day begins at sunset, not at midnight: the night comes before its day. So after Maghrib in Egypt, the Hijri date has already moved on by one, even though phones and calendars change it at midnight. This is why the first taraweeh of Ramadan is prayed on the evening before the first fast, and why "the night of the 27th" is the evening before the 27th day.

In the main transmitted position of the school, differences in the horizon (ikhtilaf al-matali) are not taken into account: a sighting established in one land binds others once it reaches them through a reliable route. Many later Hanafi scholars allowed distant lands to follow their own sighting. In practice, follow the body your local masjid follows, so the community fasts and celebrates together.1

Questions
The date at the top of this page is today's Hijri date for the current day in Egypt, by the Umm al-Qura calendar. If the month began a day later in Egypt, choose −1 day. After sunset the Islamic date has already moved on to the next day.
Egypt follows a sighting checked against astronomical calculation. Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah announces the start of Ramadan and the Eids, working with NRIAG and the Egyptian Survey Authority.
Usually, yes. Egypt follows its own sighting through Dar al-Ifta, so its dates can occasionally differ from Saudi Arabia's by a day.
By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with the first taraweeh on the night of Sunday 7 February. Where the month starts by a later sighting it may begin on Tuesday 9 February. In Egypt, follow Dar al-Ifta's announcement.
Use the converter on this page. Pick a Gregorian date to see the Hijri date, or enter a Hijri day, month and year to see the Gregorian date. It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, and the −1 and +1 day setting moves the results with your local sighting.
