The Islamic date in Bangladesh, who sets it and why it can differ

Who decides the Islamic date in Bangladesh
Bangladesh sets each month by a local sighting. The National Moon Sighting Committee meets at the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka on the evening of the 29th, chaired by the minister or adviser for religious affairs. District committees, led by the deputy commissioners with Islamic Foundation officers, send in their reports, and the national committee announces the new month.
Is it the same date as in Saudi Arabia?
As in Pakistan and India, the crescent is often seen a day later than in Arabia, so Bangladesh's dates are often a day after the Umm al-Qura calendar, while on many months they match. Choose −1 day if the National Moon Sighting Committee began this month a day later.
When the Islamic date changes
The Islamic day begins at sunset, not at midnight: the night comes before its day. So after Maghrib in Bangladesh, the Hijri date has already moved on by one, even though phones and calendars change it at midnight. This is why the first taraweeh of Ramadan is prayed on the evening before the first fast, and why "the night of the 27th" is the evening before the 27th day.

Hanafi position
In the main transmitted position of the school, differences in the horizon (ikhtilaf al-matali) are not taken into account: a sighting established in one land binds others once it reaches them through a reliable route. Many later Hanafi scholars allowed distant lands to follow their own sighting. In practice, follow the body your local masjid follows, so the community fasts and celebrates together.1
